Part of my happy winter hibernation is magazines (o.k. that is part of all the seasons of my life, but just a little intense in the winter) and revisiting old books.
I picked a couple of my favorites. Town and Country (I like to pretend I have oodles and oodles of old Money) and Harpers Bazaar. Oh they were filled with so much goodness!!! T and C has a charming article on Babe Paley. They just don't make socialites like they use too.
Harpers Bazaar had a preview to the upcoming Madonna movie W.E. she is directing about the life of Wallis Simpson. And what a life it was... A thirty-something American twice divorcee who captured the love of a King, who gave up what he was born to do to marry her. I remember as a kid being enthralled by the story. I know, I know I can't believe my parents let me read this sordid stuff. I think that they were happy that their kid was reading history books:) Speaking of a good biography. Recently I watched on film the Shirley MacLaine Chanel Story version. A delightful reminder of why I adore Coco and my favorite biography on her.
I picked up this book at my all-time favorite used bookstore in Florida. I swear that most of my favorite books were found there. Good old musty books with torn covers. This one is a jewel, other Coco books did not capture the magic of her life as this one. So, written with passion (the author is french) and I couldn't put the thing down! Still re-read parts on occasion. Coco was and is still a style genius! Oh if I could of gone to her 1962 fashion show!!! When fashion was a dream. Where it was about a woman and feeling beautiful. Not about Trends and impressing others. It was about finding your personal style.
All three of these Women embodied that to their core. Living life with Unique Style. Happy Thursday! Love, C.
